The African National Congress (ANC) in the KwaZulu-Natal province has not been disbanded despite the court ruling that it is not legitimate.
The ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) has taken a collective decision yet again, but this time to support and join the ANC KZN provincial executive committee (PEC)’s appeal against the Pietermaritzburg High Court judgment following the ruling that it was not elected properly.
The ANC National will in the mean-time ligitimize the ANC KZN PEC pending the outcome of a legal challenge by the province’s party leadership to a court case last month that rendered them‚ and the 2015 conference they were elected at‚ invalid.
This was announced at a press briefing on Tuesday, called by the ANC in KZN on Monday.
The high court ruling last month found that the 2015 provincial elective conference should be nullified.
The court found that the conference had been held too early and therefore was not in accordance with the party’s constitution.
