ANCYL calls for reinstatement of Johnny Dladla as the Acting CEO of Eskom

The Youth League of the ruling party African National Congress (ANC) has called on the Power Utility Eskom to reinstate Johnny Dladla as the group Acting CEO of Eskom.

In a media statement the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) said it has noted, with extreme concern, the removal of Johnny Dladla as the acting CEO of Eskom following his removal from the Eskom top seat by the new board.

The ANCYL said it is has long lost its confidence on the Board of Eskom given its consistent inability to provide good governance at Eskom as expected.

“The Eskom Board has demonstrated its incapacity on many occasions, most notably was the issue of the then CEO, Brian Molefe which as we understand now is in court.” said ANCYL

“The Eskom Board went on to appoint someone who has subsequently been suspended pending the disciplinary hearing on what he is suspected, and alleged to have done.

The ANCYL has called on the Eskom Board to be dissolved, and an interim Board be placed to rescue this important state owned enterprise.

The ANCYL has also called for parliament to immediately institute an adhoc committee to look into the affairs of Eskom just like they did with SABC.

“We further call for the reinstatement of Johnny Dladla because his removal lacks substance, but further passes an incorrect perception or reality.

“It is our view that his removal as the acting CEO is informed by the fact that he had said that he was going recoup moneys that were unlawful paid to McKinsey and Trillian  to the amount  of R1.56 billion.

“Our thinking is that this statement earned him the axing.

“It would appear to us that his  axing has something to do with aforesaid statement.

“We cannot have a Board that is viewed to be protecting certain individuals.

“We cannot have state institutions that are perceived, or are defenders of wrong decisions which, even worse, are unlawful.”
