The Jozini Municipality Executive Committee budget meeting disrupted on Monday after the opposition refused to cooperate.
According to the reports members of the African National Congress (ANC) which is opposition party in the municipality disrupted the proceedings in the Inkhatha Freedom Party (IFP) run Jozini Municipality with slogans, shouting and notices.
The Jozini Municipality, which is now governed by the IFP, has faced numerous challenges in electing an executive due to a deadlock between the IFP and ANC.
“The ANC has once again sought to derail service delivery to the community, by disrupting an important and integral part of the Municipality’s key function – the budget.” said the Democratic Alliance (DA).
“It is unacceptable that the community is held at ransom by these undemocratic tactics of the uncaring ANC in KwaZulu-Natal.
“The attendance of the two ANC councillors ensured that the quorum was met today and a budget plan for the municipality was finally tabled.
“The DA will not allow that the deterioration of the ANC hampers service delivery to our communities and we will ensure that the voices of the electorate are heard.
“The DA would like to applaud the prompt response from the SAPS in defusing the disorderly conduct by the ANC, in order to ensure that the meeting proceeded.
“The ANC has allowed for thuggery to become a recurring feature in its local politics but the DA will continue to fight for a free and fair society.”
