President Jacob Zuma is set to announce his decision on the Report of the Commission into the Feasibility of Fee-Free Higher Education and Training in South Africa following the release of the report on Monday.
The report was compiled by the commission chaired by Honourable Justice Jonathan Arthur Heher, assisted by Adv Gregory Ally and Ms Leah Thabisile Khumalo.
The Fees Commission Report on the feasibility of Fee-free higher education recommended the ways in which the government and private can work together to subsidize education and make it affordable for the poor families through dept or loans.
The President said he will wait on the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Higher Education Funding led by the Minister in the Presidency Mr Jeff Radebe, and the Presidential Fiscal Committee whose lead Minister is the Minister of Finance, Mr Malusi Gigaba, to processes the report before he makes his decision.
“I will make a pronouncement on the Report once the Ministers have concluded their work. I have decided to release the Report prior to the conclusion of our work in processing it so that the public can have an opportunity to study the report while we continue with the processing thereof.” said President Zuma
