Unlike the Youth Leaque of the African National Congress (ANC), The ANC West Rand region has Today endorsed Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa to succeed President Jacob Zuma as the president of the ruling party, Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu to be his deputy and Gauteng Chairperson Paul Mashatile be in the ANC Top Six.
ANC West Rand region chairman Boyce Maneli made the matter public in a regional general council meeting held in Mogale City on Saturday were Mashatile was in attendence.
Maneli‚ addressing branch delegates on Saturday to the regional general council in Mogale City‚ said the region had no problem with Ramaphosa automatically succeeding Jacob Zuma as party leader in December.
He also expressed support for more women in the ANC top six leadership structure but insisted that Ramaphosa be the president.
Maneli mentioned Lindiwe Sisulu as one of the high-profile woman leaders who could make it onto the leadership structure.
Maneli also hinted at a push to have current Gauteng ANC Chairman Paul Mashatile elected onto the top six.
He said Mashatile had age on his side and has served on the national executive committee (NEC) for a number of years.
The West Rand ANC has become the first region to endorse Ramaphosa after the Northern Cape put its weight behind the businessman-turned-politician.

Mashatile warned against assassinating people’s character, during the leadership race and called for a stronger Lithuli House as it is weak at the moment and need to be redesigned as the center of the old liberation movement.
“Don’t tell us it’s time for a woman president. I don’t agree with that. If the person is capable,,,that’s fine.” said Mashtaile
“There has to be women in leadership, but mustn’t start the debate the wrong way. Mustn’t start proposal with slates.”
Mashatile said people are tired, “every day you wake up…emails”, state capture, Eskom.
“Gauteng must be united, ahead of policy and elective congresses and Hope to unite the rest of the country.” said Mashatile
Mashatile congratulated the region saying they’re the most organised region in the ANC.
Mashtaile says branches must be guided through the principle of “through the eye of the needle”.
“If you want to be rich, go to the private sector, we are here for the people. Whether you’re a mayor or premier, don’t be there, because you want to enrich yourself.”
