North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of the former leader of Bophuthatswana, Kgosi Lucas Mangope.
“When I became Premier in 2014, Kgosi Mangope was one of the people I visited to tap on his wisdom,” Premier Mahumapelo said on Friday.
Kgosi Mangope passed away on Thursday at the age of 94.
He was the leader of the apartheid-era homeland from 1977 to 1994 and he played a pivotal role while leading the United Christian Democratic Party (UCDP), which is an opposition party in the North West Provincial Legislature
The Office of the Premier said it will work with the family to ensure that Kgosi Mangope is given a dignified funeral.
Premier Mahumapelo and the provincial government will visit Kgosi Mangope’s family on Sunday to offer their condolences.
